Both being Doctors, Dr Ulhas and Geeta Lad have worked in General Practice together for over 30 years. This has always meant that their lives are entwined almost 24 hours per day. They do almost everything together - working, eating, sleeping, socialising and living together. Although for most marriages this would pose a problem, it has always seemed to work for Mum and Dad. Anyone that knows them will tell you that they make a great pair, each one complimenting the other. They have remained this compatible and loving pair for 35 years of marriage.

Doctors are often hard working people and Mum and Dad are no exception. They have always worked incredibly hard and dedicated so much of their lives to providing excellent medical care to their patients.

Mum is loved and adored by Dad. And understandably so, as she is an amazing woman who often achieves more in one day than an average person might in a week. As a mother, wife, homemaker, Doctor and community member, she is a constant inspiration to us.

As a father, Dad Lad (as we sometimes call him) has always been loving, generous and caring. Having little family in Australia has meant that the four of us (Ulhas, Geeta, Anoop & Aparna) are particularly close.

As well as spending time with family, Dad’s main interests are playing tennis, watching movies, reading, following the stock market, socialising with Mum and their friends, and partaking in regular Hindu celebrations and cultural activities.

Dad is known for his relaxed, jovial nature and his quirky sense of humour. Amongst his family, friends and patients, he’s well known for his helpful nature and readiness to go out of his way for people in need.

Dr Lad has worked in General Practice with his wife, Geeta, for over 30 years. They worked for 12 years in a country practice in Smithton on Tasmania’s North West Coast, and for 19 years in Blackmans Bay. Dr Lad is known by his patients to be trustworthy, hardworking and devoted to his profession.

Dr Lad has always shown a sincere concern and care for their wellbeing and maintained the utmost professionalism. Despite their busy schedules, both doctors on numerous occasions have returned attended to patients well outside conventional business hours.

The support letters received from the patients themselves are a true testament to the kind of Doctor that Ulhas Lad is.

Despite having a busy working life, Ulhas and Geeta Lad still find time to maintain an active social life, particularly in the Indian/sub continent community. Their company and enthusiasm for life is enjoyed by so many.

During the 20 years of living in Hobart, Ulhas and Geeta have been active members of the Indian Cultural Society of Tasmania (Ulhas has served as the President of the ICS for a total of 6 years), Shanti Niwas Incorporated (Tasmania’s Hindu organisation), and the Indian Cultural and Community Welfare Centre in Tasmania.
